Professional Art Instruction at Island Park

Island Park has a professional art teacher, Tracy Richardson, in K-5 classrooms, due to the support of the Fine Arts Advisory Committee.

National PTA Art Reflections Contest

Island Park is proud to participate in the National PTA Reflections Art Contest, America’s oldest and largest arts education program of its kind. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works in visual arts, photography, literature, musical composition, film production, and dance choreography. Go to Washington State PTA Reflections Art Contest for more information.

Classroom Art Docents

Our amazing Art Docent program is made up of parent volunteers, like you! Art Docents visit classrooms each month to give an art history lesson using reproductions of artworks from the PTA’s collection of prints and online resources. Lessons range from genres of art to themes and artists. The classrooms discuss the artwork and complete an art project. Please check with your child’s teacher about being a classroom art docent. If you are interested in becoming your child’s classroom art docent, please contact Sue Gundy at suegundy@gmail.com

Island Park Artists-in-Residence

This program exposes students to art and the creative process. Professional artists and art instructors work with each classroom on art projects that compliment the curriculum.

Mercer Island Fine Arts Showcase

The district-wide Fine Arts Showcase is a not-to-be-missed two day extravaganza. Held at Mercer Island high school, all elementary students have an art piece on display at the Showcase. Our 3rd grade students perform in a special choral and dance program.
